American Airlines has announced a major upgrade to its international business class product, confirming that mattress pads will now be available on all long-haul routes. The decision marks a significant enhancement to the carrier’s premiumoffering as it aims to compete more aggressively. This significant upgrade to their business class service is designed to enhance passenger comfort on long flights, with the goal of offering a more restful and enjoyable travel experience. The addition of mattress pads aligns with the airline’s broader strategy to cater to the growing demand for premium services, ensuring that its passengers arrive well-rested and ready to explore. This shift in air travel could have a profound impact on global tourism, especially in popular European destinations like France, Spain, and Italy, which are already attracting high-end travelers. With American Airlines raising the bar for long-haul travel comfort, these countries might see a notable increase in luxury tourism as affluent passengers choose to combine superior in-flight experiences with world-class destinations.
Naturalmat mattresses are made with recycled denim
Naturalmat, based in the U.K., offers sustainably made mattresses and bed linens, utilizing materials such as coconut fibers and recycled denim.
Founded in 1999, the company initially made only adult-size mattresses for boats. Now, the company’s boat mattress business has been branded Naturalmat Marine and the Naturalmat flagship brand has expanded its offerings to include bedding, mattress toppers, bed bases and headboards.
The company has always been dedicated to using sustainable materials and working with like-minded partners. For example, the company works with jean manufacturers to collect denim scraps, which are shredded, processed and mixed with recycled polyester to create the material used in the Splendid Mattress and Trendy Topper. The coconut fibers used in most of Naturalmat’s mattresses are sourced from a Global Organic Latex Standard-certified supplier in Sri Lanka, and all its mattresses are biodegradable. The company recently launched ReNew™ fabric. The fabric features leftover cotton and linen fabric scraps from Naturalmat’s upholstered bed bases and headboards. These are shredded into fibers, blended with wool and turned into yarn that is used to make the basket weave fabric, which is reused in other upholstered products.
The company is also part of the Cotton Lives On™ recycling program. The program collects and processes used cotton clothing that is sent to Naturalmat and used to make the interior filling for sleeping mats, which are donated to charities across the U.K. fighting bed poverty.
