Q What new trends are emerging in the Polyurethane segment?
There is a significant demand for a shift toward green chemistry, focusing on reducing or eliminating the use of certain flame retardants.
Additionally, there is a growing need for specialized foams, such as PU Latex and High Resilience foams for furniture and mattresses, as well as for reducing the use of solvent-based adhesives in foam-to-foam bonding. On the equipment front, the rising cost of land in India has led to a significant increase in inquiries to us for material handling solutions, which we address in collaboration with our partner M/s. Albrecht Bäumer GmbH & Co. KG.
Q What innovations can we see in this area in the near future?
We have not seen so much demand to make new type of foams, Saan was the first one to offer chemicals to make special foams like:
- HR Foams for Furniture and Mattresses
- Pneumatic Foams for Cushions and Quilting
- Super soft foams for Pillows
- Copper gel
- PU Latex for online Mattresses
- Foam fast curing
- Compression set additive
- Foam for outdoor furniture
are some of the innovations happening.
Q What is your take on Sustainability and how do you address this in your company?
At Saan, we are at the forefront of sustainability, in fact one of the companies with a dedicated team of research scientists, is working towards sustainable innovations.
Some of our key initiatives include establishing a natural polyol-based manufacturing plant in Gujarat and advancing efforts in recycled polyols and phthalate-free plasticizers. We have embraced renewable energy by installing solar panels at our units and corporate office and implementing rainwater harvesting systems. Additionally, our fabric unit utilizes recycled materials.
Notably, we have also developed a waste wood-based natural polyol that can be used in panels and foam, further showcasing our commitment to sustainable practices.
